TREE RELOCATION

…continues to be an important service that we offer. Our tree spades are available in three sizes and are mounted to either our Valtra tractor, or the Volvo Truck with flotation tyres, or the mini digger. We have recently moved various sized specimens at RHS Wisley Gardens, and for Royal Parks, plus The Oxford Botanic Gardens at Harcourt Arboretum, as well as on Golf Courses and for private clients. Call us to discuss the viability of your project.

BEAUTIFUL TULIP TREE

with Treegator Slow Release Watering Bag

Our team recently planted this beautiful Tulip Tree on the out edges of a school sports field. A single bag fits tree trunks from 1” to 3” in diameter and continuously provides water for approximately 5 to 9 hours. Refill with water once every 5 to 7 days to aid new tree plantings to reach establishment. Great job from the Heritage Plantsmen!

EMERGENCIES AND SUMMER BRANCH DROP

Occasionally, a tree that appears relatively healthy and stable, will shed a branch for no apparent reason. This conundrum is known as Summer Branch Drop and is possibly related to existing cracks or decay, or certain weather patterns, e.g. calmer conditions following a heavy rain shower which ends a spell of increasing soil dryness, or even the more senior age classification of some more prone species with elongated limbs, e.g. the Elm (see photos) to name one. Remain vigilant and check for any visible changes. We are happy to carry out inspections to confirm, or allay, any fears.

NEVER STOP LEARNING

Three of our Managers attended The Arboricultural Association’s Morphophysiology Course in the picturesque setting at Easthampstead Park, Berkshire June ‘23. Thanks to AA for the photos.

FULFILING DREAMS BY IMPORTING TREES

Importing this semi mature beauty from Europe, with huge rootball, on the cross channel ferry, to fulfil a client’s dream. All bio security checks in place. Logistics arranged by our superb planting team and a forever home found! Anything’s possible and we can help!

The Capon Oak, Scotland - bespoke propping

Easter 2023 - The incredible Capon Oak, one of Britain’s 50 most important trees, last tree of Jed Forest on the Scottish borderlands, received a new brace and prop, designed by Hugo, fabricated and installed by local companies, to enable her continuing life alongside the waters.

Crouch Oak, Addlestone UK - bespoke propping

EDIT - The Woodland Trust voted the Crouch Oak a comendable second place in their Tree of the Year poll.

Spring 2023 - Propping of the famous Crouch Oak in Addlestone with three intricate bespoke longevity aids, designed by Heritage Tree Services Ltd. Following a summertime inspection, the Oak was happily in leaf, supported by the smartly painted props with new Chestnut fencing and mulch mat installed.

History, ecology, or do you love the look of an ancient, old tree? We certainly do and the Crouch End Oak, once marking the boundary of Great Windsor Park, is no exception, being one of our favourites. We were thrilled to be consulted by the local authority to assist in prolonging the physiological and structural life expectancy of this amazing tree by designing a bespoke propping system which was installed by our skilled team earlier this year. The reduction of the alongside carriageway to one lane, with the addition of a nutritious mulch mat, and chestnut fencing surrounding the rooting environment, should ensure Addlestone residents boast this magical monument for many more years yet! Nominated for Tree of the Year by the Woodland Trust, with the limbs triumphantly stretched skywards, we felt the Crouch End Oak was a very worthy contender.

Tree Maintenance solutions on offer in Europe, too…

Here’s Didi from Heritage Tree Services Ltd, together with Leon, earlier in 2023 carrying out remedial maintenance to the canopy of a Norfolk Island Pine on the European island of Malta. They were then invited to MCAS Institute of Applied Sciences where students from the Advanced Diploma in Environmental Sustainability, BSc (Hons) in Environmental Science and Sustainable Technologies were given a talk by the Arborists who were in Malta carrying out work on historic trees belonging to the Corinthia Hotel. Leon and Didi were invited by Dr Calleja to speak about 21st century tree management solutions that are regularly employed in the UK to protect old trees from development projects. They showed the students the variety of equipment used climbing into the canopies of trees and doing target work that improves the trees’ health including correction pruning to remove damaged, or diseased, parts of the tree. The visit provided a fantastic learning opportunity for students to further understand tree management practices offered in mainland Europe, though currently, not in Malta. At the end a group discussion ensued about how authorities like ERA (the Environment and Resources Authority) can raise the level and standard of tree management practices in Malta to safeguard, at any cost, the existence of large, old and monumental trees in development projects, rather than sacrificing them, as so often, is unfortunately, the case.
